There are several hotels within walking distance from Grecotel ranging from deluxe to budget hotels. Please contact Minerva as soon as possible to guarantee the room of your choice.

NOTE: Due to an oversight the ICS'99 web site listed the Rhodes Palace Hotel as an alternative to the conference hotel. Most conference attendees arriving in Greece will arrive at the East Terminal (International terminal) of the Athens Airport - all international carriers arrive in this terminal. Those who fly Olympic Airlines will arrive at the West Terminal used exclusively by Olympic and domestic carriers. The simple diagram of the airport in Athens shows the relative location of the two terminals relative to the tarmac and the two routes (Route 1 and Route 2) which you can take by bus or taxi to arrive to West Terminal.

All flights to Rhodes depart from the West Terminal. Arriving attendees will therefore have to go through passport and customs control at East Terminal, take a bus or a taxi and transfer to West terminal to board your flights to Rhodes. There are airport buses that depart every 20 minutes from East to West Terminal just outside the arrival gates at East Terminal. You will also find tourist information desk and currency exchange bank offices outside the arrival exit. Your trip to West Terminal is approximately 15-30 minutes by taxi, depending on time of day and traffic. You should allow yourself at least 40 minutes to be on the safe side.

Taxi fare between the two terminals should be between 1,700 drx (appx. $6) and 2,000 ($7) plus appx 200 drx (or less than $1) for each piece of luggage that you check in the trunk. You may hire a taxi outside the arrival exit where there is a long queue of taxis and passangers (it usually flows pretty fast). You may also reserve a taxi to wait for you at the arrival gate with your name plate by faxing your arrival time, flight number and request to Katja Pitsounis at Minerva (

A bus connecting the two terminals of the Athens International airport runs every 30 minutes between 05:40 in the morning and 22:40 in the evening, and every 1 hour between 23:20 in the evening and 04:20 in the morning. Tickets can be bought outside the terminals.

Upon arrival in Rhodes you may ride one of the public buses from the airport to the Grecotel, or you may hire a taxi from the airport. The taxi/bus ride from the Rhodes airport to the conference hotel is about 20 minutes. The depature time of the public buses from the airport is following.

05:55, 06:35, 06:45, 07:10, 07:20, 07:50, 08:25, 09:25, 09:45, 10:35, 11:15,
12:05, 12:45, 13:45, 14:15, 14:50, 15:10, 15:30, 16:15, 16:35, 17:20, 18:00,
18:45, 19:50, 20:00, 20:35, 21:35, 22:55, 23:35, 00:10

Several passenger boats depart daily from the Athenian port of Pereas for Rhodes. All departures are in the late afternoon and evening and they arrive in Rhodes between 6am-9am the next morning. Depending on the boat the trip takes 10-14 hours and the cost is somewhat less than the airfare. If you want more adventure and wish to experience the serenity, beauty and fresh breeze of the Aegean Sea late at night, a boat ride might be the right thing. The best way to reach the port of Pereas is by taxi from the airport. It takes appx. 30-50minutes and costs appx. $3,000 drx ($10).

If your plane arrives late at night your connection to Rhodes may not be until the following morning. In case you need to reserve hotel rooms for overnight stay close to the airport or in downtown Athens please contact Katja Pitsounis at Minerva.

Minerva can also help you with transportation and hotel reservations if you plan to tour other parts of Greece before/after ICS.
