Assessment

Assessment Hurdles

Students are individually assessed and they need to be genuinely contributing to the team effort throughout the semester. So, to pass this unit, a student must achieve 45% or above from each of the two assessment tasks listed below. Each team must also complete a Risk Assessment for their robot to be allowed into the competition.

Assessment Components

Assessment Task Assessment Component Notes Value Time
Continuous Assessment (40%) Weekly Progress Satisfactory attendance and engagement in the weekly meetings with the supervisor. Every member of a team needs to prepare a separate 1-page progress report, printed and brought to every weekly meeting (except week 1 and the competition weeks: 9 and 12), outlining the previous week's achievements and plan for the next week. We will not accept reports that do not strictly follow this template. 10% Every week
Preliminary Competition Various aspects (robustness, mechanical design, sensor processing and control capabilities etc.) of the robot design will be assessed through the competition rounds. 20% Week 9
Team Presentation Presentation slide pack is to be submitted to Moodle in PDF or PowerPoint format by the team representative. We will download all slide packs right after the due date and only these will be used during a presentation. 10% Week 10, 11 or 12
Final Project Assessment (60%) Final Report Final report is to be submitted to Moodle in PDF format by the team representative. But, every team member also needs to individually submit a separate confidential mutual assessment. Submission of the mutual assessment is compulsory. If a team member does not submit his/her mutual assessment, the final report mark will not be added to this member's overall grade. 30% Week 12
Final Competition Hardware quality of the robot will be assessed (quality of construction, innovations in design, reliable operation) as well as the points collected in the competition rounds. 30% Week 12
