This standalone program tests the (USB) connection between each physically connected packet radio and computer by opening then closing the related serial port. This is to catch a bug with the packet radios where the Linux kernel detects that the device is busy, and therefore cannot open a serial port to it. To fix this issue, the packet radio must be physically disconnected and reconnected and tested again until the issue goes away.

Although a program itself, it is defined as a function which can be imported into any other program. This function returns the following:

  • A list of successfully connected radios
  • A count of the number of successfully connected radios
  • A list of the failed radios
  • A count of the number of failed radios
